PhD Position in Development of Novel Electrode Materials for Rechargeable Batteries

Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy invites applications for up to two PhD positions in the development of novel electrode materials for rechargeable batteries. The position is available starting 1 September 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Application deadline is 17 June 2015.

See the full description at sdu.dk

The project focuses on developing novel cathode materials for rechargeable Li-, Mg- and/or Al-ion batteries and exploring how material composition, crystal structure and nano-morphology affect the battery performance.

The project includes:

  • Preparation of novel katode materials (synthesis, tests and optimization)
  • Material characterization through powder X-ray diffraction, BET and microscopy (SEM, TEM)
  • Test of electrochemical performance and elucidation of transport properties (Impedance spectroscopy)
  • Studies of electrochemical driven phase transformation through operando powder X-ray diffraction studies carried out at synchrotron facilities.

The candidate should have a good knowledge of inorganic chemistry, solid state chemistry, electrochemistry and chemical synthesis. Knowledge about powder X-ray diffraction and experience with battery related materials will be an advantage.

The appointment will be for a term of three (5+3 programme for applicants with a Master’s degree) or four (4+4 programme for students who have not yet finished their Master studies) years at very competitive salary. Teaching duties of related subjects will be part of the programme. A four to six month research visit to Department of Material Science and Engineering at MIT, USA is planned as part of the project.
