Battery activities at Haldor Topsoe A/S

Haldor Topsoe A/S has a long history of being on the forefront of research and of being proactive regarding new technologies. Haldor Topsoe has of course been active on a large number of aspects regarding catalyst development, but also other types of research have reached far.

Examples of this are the super conductor development, the development of large silicon single crystal for silicon wafers which crystalized in the company Topsil, and Topsoe Fuel Cell A/S where presently 100 employees work on SOFC development.

Recently Haldor Topsoe’s focus on new research areas has been formalized through a new department, New Business, which focus on new areas both catalyst and non-catalyst related; one of the New Business projects are lithium-ion battery materials development, with main focus on cathode materials such as high voltage spinels.

The project is also looking into high voltage anode material such as titanates. Although in close collaboration, the lithium ion battery group is physically divided into two locations; one in Ravnholm where the main focus is synthesis of cathode materials as well as business development; and one in Ulm, Germany, with focus on battery tests, cathode and anode materials, and collaboration with German partners. In the presentation focus areas and aims as well as collaboration projects will be presented.
