Minutes from meeting on uniform electrode coating

Coin cell assemblyIt was a pleasure to welcome participants from Aarhus University, University of Southern Denmark, Technical University of Denmark and the Danish Technological Institute to a morning meeting at Haldor Topsøe in Lyngby July 7 about sharing hands-on experiences with battery material testing.

The meeting was held in accordance with the action point established during the annual meeting in April this year. The focus of the meeting was to discuss and establish a common method for testing batteries, especially using impedance spectroscopy, in order to obtain high-quality measurements. The meeting started with a tour of the battery research laboratory facilities located in the former Topsøe Fuel Cells buildings. This allowed insight into the exact details of cathode preparation and battery assembly, and the different methods used by the participating research institutions were compared and discussed. After a short coffee break, Jonathan Højberg gave an interesting talk on the assembly of Li-ion coin cell batteries using LNMO cathodes. It was decided that each participating research group attempts to construct a battery cell using the recipe supplied by Haldor Topsøe, cycle the cell for a certain number of cycles, and then measure the impedance. The results will be compared at a later meeting, and any discrepancies will be discussed. The exact procedure is attached.

If you have any questions or interest in testing the Topsøe battery material according to the attached procedure and help testing the Danish reproducibility, please send an e-mail to Daniel Risskov Sørensen (drs@sdu.dk).
